Daytona Beach 2002

Performance Alley in Daytona Bike Week, 2001

Performance Alley in Daytona Bike Week, 2001

After meeting some key figures in the US industry, we were invited to Performance Alley in Daytona Bike Week, 2001. It was almost too good to be true…amongst the great of the industry, and welcomed as an (almost!)equal. Many thanks to our 2001 hosts, Dave ‘the look’ Perewitz’ at Cycle Fab, and Tom Pirone of Total Performance (TP Engineering). Dave has painted up his customary storm on this outstanding bike of Bert Baker, the developer of 6-Speed transmissions, and the revolutionary right hand drive transmission pictured here.
We fitted Dave and Berts bikes with Flo-Tec Intakes. Dave’s bike, which we’ll be featuring shortly, has a Total Performance 107″ running a 42mm Mikuni. Berts is a hot daddy street rod S&S 103″er on 110 octane fuel, with a 42mm Mikuni.
We’ve fitted one of our Mikuni/S&S manifolds which puts the Mikuni back into the motor where it belongs. This is very helpful to custom and performance builders who otherwise have a lot of trouble fitting neat breather systems to Big Inch S&S headed motors running non S&S carbs. The polished Flo-Tec mounting bracket and Mega horn don’t look too bad, either.

How we got invited to the US

How we got invited to the US

In 2001 John Williamson of RMD (UK) was running FloTec on his drag team Harleys, and wanted to introduce them to his US colleagues, in particular Tom Pirone of Total Performance Motors. On his stand happened to be Dave Perewitz, with the first DayTec Right-Side-Drive frame, built to take Bert Baker’s new RSD transmission. It was a meeting of like minds… “Indy 2001.. We attended the Powersport dealer show in Indianapolis this year, and are pleased to appoint two more US dealers, Perewitz and Total Performance Engineering. This is in addition to Paul Yaffe Originals. Details of their excellent products can be obtained directly at the addresses below. Or hit the dealers page and enter their websites directly. Dave Perewitz turned a few heads by fitting a Flo-Tec and Mega Horn to his latest Right-Hand-Drive bike, right there on the Total Performance stand. Apparently not many of his colleagues have seen him with a spanner in his hand for a while. Dave Perewitz’ dry assembly of his rolling chassis kit. Only $14k (and a bit), including Baker 5 or 6 speed Right-Hand Drive, and a hot 107″ Total Performance Motor, with Radial ‘Flo-Tec’ Air Intake System and show-polished Mega Horn. Thanks very much to Tom Pirone of TP Engineering for the outstanding hospitality during the show, and Dave Perewitz for such enthusiasm and support for the Flo-Tec system. Some of the Flo-Tec range will be viewable in the Perewitz trailer, and on Total Performance motors at Daytona Bike Week. Howard Kelly, editor of Hot Bike Magazine, is fitting Flo-Tec to his Dyna, and tells us that he’ll be running a feature on the fitting and performance of the System. We’ll post news here when the article appears. Ace motor builder Kendall Johnston, of Headquarters USA, will be fitting Flo-Tec to a 113″ S&S, and we’ll run the results of his product evaluation.” Dashing Dave’s comment on the Flo-Tec “ I haven’t seen anything for quite a while that got me so excited”. Dave, you should get out more often….!
